SILVA SET FOR NEW DEAL

Premier league leaders Manchester City have opened negotiations with their star midfielder David Silva over the prospect of signing a new contract.

David Silva joined from Valencia in a £ 24 million deal a few seasons ago. Even though he took some time to adapt to life in England, the Spaniard has been one of the best performers for Manchester City.

He has indeed been one of the best players in England this season with numerous assists and many goals to his credit. As a result of his great performances in recent weeks, there has been speculation that Real Madrid could come in for David Silva in the summer.

In order to prevent the midfielder's head from being turned by Real Madrid, Manchester City are ready to open talks with the midfielder over the possibility of signing a new contract with the club.

David Silva is currently not one of the top earners at the club. Yaya Touré and Carlos Tevez currently occupy this position, but once he signs new contract, David Silva can expect to be running around £ 250,000 per week, which would make him one of the best paid players in the world.

"I've got two more years left on my contract here. I'm very happy and I am going to see them through. After that, who knows? Football is a changeable game, from one day to another, everything could change. I only see myself at the moment as where I am and that is at City," David Silva recently said about his future and his current contract.

Even after the arrival of many attacking players like Mario Balotelli and Sergio Aguero, David Silva has retained his influence within the team. If Manchester City win the title, one can expect David Silva to be a major part of it.

Negotiations are expected to be concluded ahead of the European Championships, where Silva will be hoping for more trophies as he leads out the team with the shortest Euro 2012 betting odds online, Spain.
