David Silva Happy with New Role under Pep Guardiola
Manchester City midfielder David Silva claims that he is enjoying life in the Guardiola, as the Spaniard is allowing him more freedom on the ball.
Silva appears back to his best this campaign and he has already contributed tremendously to the club’s impressive start to the campaign. City only recently suffered their first defeat of the season and it came after six consecutive wins. The blip against Tottenham is unlikely to affect the confidence, which has been at skyhigh according to Silva. Guardiola came in as the replacement for Manuel Pellegrini in the summer and the former Barcelona manager was expected to do some great things at the club.
It has indeed turned out to be the case, as City are now more entertaining and also solid when it comes to defending. They clearly look like the unbeatable package for the 2016-17 season. Silva has not been at his best in the last couple of campaigns due to niggling injury issues. The former Valencia man went from making more than 50 appearances in his first season at the club to less than 40 last season. This drastic reduction, though, has not been down to poor form. Silva will be hoping to get away from the injury issues for this campaign. He has one goal in six appearances in all competitions.
"The way of playing the boss wants is to control the game, create chances in front of goal and control the rival team.I'm playing some steps further back sometimes because I have to help in the build-up but Guardiola also gives me freedom to attack and be close to the rival goal.He wants me to create chances, that's something I really like. He gives me a lot of freedom and I'm very happy in this role. The team, too, stays confident," said Silva.
