David Silva is starting to benefit
Gary Neville says that Manchester City midfielder David Silva is starting to benefit from the immense availability of pace in the team.
The Spaniard has enjoyed a great start to the season and he was at his imperious best in the 3-0 win over Chelsea. After an indifferent last season, it looks like he is back to his best and this is good news for City. Even though they have spent a lot of money in acquiring new talents like Raheem Sterling and Kevin De Bruyne, the Spaniard has abundance amount of creativity that will help unlock tight defences.
Neville is a huge fan of Silva and he says that one of the reasons for the improved performances of the Spaniard is the pace around him. Silva went on to continue his form by overpowering the opponent in the 2-0 win over Everton. For long periods of the game, it looked like the home team would be able to frustrate their title challenging opponents. After all, the game at Goodison Park has been a difficult one for City in recent years. The quality shown by Silva, though, came to the rescue of Manuel Pellegrini’s team after they won the game in the second half.
"He picked up the ball so much - he was connecting everything, like the glue that was holding everything together. He was running the game. It was so difficult for McCarthy and Barry - they were being run all over the pitch by him. He's now got pace all around him with Raheem Sterling, Jesus Navas, Kolarov and Sergio Aguero. Last season, they didn't have that pace in the team - Aguero was on and off form, Sterling wasn't at the club, Navas was in and out of the team,” said Neville, who played with a lot of fast players in his time.
