Guardiola Demands More from David Silva after Wolves Defeat
Pep Guardiola may have come out with a glowing praises of David Silva throughout his tenure at Manchester City, but the manager was incredibly unhappy with the Spaniard in the recent defeat against Wolves. City ended up falling 2-0 to Wolves at the Etihad Stadium and the team are now an incredible eight points behind Liverpool even in this early stage of the campaign. It has not been a positive start by City, who have been criticised for being too unbalanced. There have been a lot of critics for City’s summer acquisition, as the club did not address an ageing squad.
David Silva is one of the senior members of the team and he will leave the club at the end of the campaign. The veteran has picked up so many titles with City that he would have been a great asset for the club in the moments of trouble against Wolves. However, it was not the case since Guardiola believed that Silva was not putting up effort. Fernandinho and Nicolas Otamendi were playing in defence and both were rocked by the Adama Traore’s incredible pace. Even though Silva was criticised, there is no turning back away from City’s problems at the back. A number of players like John Stones and Aymeric Laporte are now unavailable to injuries.
Cracks have been showing up in the City squad throughout the campaign and Guardiola has been rollicking against the team even as early as the start of the campaign when Spurs picked up a draw on this ground. According to the Daily Mail, Guardiola confronted Silva after the game asking him for more effort in terms of tracking back. "David, you didn’t give us enough running. Where were the legs?" said Guardiola to Silva, according to Daily Mail. Irrespective of these failings, Silva will leave as the greatest ever players for the club.
