Harry Kane: Manchester City are the team to beat next season
Tottenham Hotspur and England striker Harry Kane believes Manchester City are the team to beat next season after romping to the Premier League title last term. The Citizens secured the English crown in blistering fashion after becoming the first top-flight team to rack 100 points and Kane feels Spurs need to have a ‘very good season’ in order to challenge Pep Guardiola’s team next term.
Speaking to Sky Sports News, he said: “It will take a very good season (to challenge Manchester City) but we've been up there for the last few years now. City had an amazing year last year but the Premier League is tough and it doesn't always happen like that to go year on year so we've just got to focus on ourselves and see what we can do.”
Kane has been the standout performer for Spurs over the past three years and this witnessed him recently rewarded with a six-year contract to stay put at the club. As a result, the north London giants have plenty of scope to improve with the current crop of exciting players but they need to secure some kind of silverware sooner rather than later.
The north London outfit have now gone more than a decade without celebrating any trophy success and the next campaign could be key to their ambition of keeping the current squad intact. Aside from Kane, the likes of Cristian Eriksen, Dele Alli and Kieran Trippier have also impressed over the years but Spurs cannot expect the same loyalty from the trident, should their trophy-less streak extend for another season.
Kane is presently on an extended break after appearing for England at the summer World Cup but he has vowed to return to Spurs before their season opener against Newcastle United. Kane has not scored for Tottenham Hotspur in August throughout his career and this is something he would want to rectify.
