NO BALLON D'OR FOR SILVA – GUARDIOLA

Manchester City manager Pep Guardiola believes that it would be difficult for petite midfielder Bernardo Silva to win the Ballon d'Or as he praised the Portuguese international who has been in very good form for the Premier League holders this season.

Bernardo Silva joined Manchester City from French club AS Monaco in the summer of 2017 and he has previously been influential for his team just like this season winning the Player of the Year award at Manchester City in 2019 after helping the club to a second successive Premier League title. The Portuguese international drew similarities with David Silva when he signed for Manchester City almost five years ago. Veteran Spanish playmaker David Silva is a Manchester City who spent a decade at the club before leaving in the summer of 2020. David Silva is now at Spanish La Liga side Real Sociedad whom he joined as a free agent shortly after leaving City. Bernardo Silva has taken his place in the Manchester City starting XI.

Speaking further on Bernardo, Guardiola said that the Portuguese star can play in six positions as he commended his selflessness. He went on to say that Bernardo might not win the Ballon d'Or for two reasons and that’s because he's not a prolific goalscorer plus the midfielder is unassuming as he's not the social media type.
Guardiola was speaking in a chat with Sky Sports just before their last game, a goalless draw at the home of London team Crystal Palace in the Premier League. The draw gave title rivals Liverpool the chance to move within one point of Guardiola and his Manchester City players ahead of the final nine games of the season. The title race involving the two teams promises to be a thrilling one with both teams set to face each other next month.
