David Silva believes Bernardo Silva can replace him on the long-term
Manchester City midfielder David Silva believes the club already have a ready-made replacement for him in the form of Bernardo Silva. The Portuguese footballer has excelled in a central midfield role during the course of the ongoing campaign and Silva feels his teammate has the qualities to take over from him, once he ends his association with the Citizens.
Silva told the club’s official website: “Bernardo is a brilliant player with lots of quality and works very hard. He's got a huge amount of quality. Football moves on, players come, and players go. But there's always someone to come in and fill your shoes and we're lucky that we've got lots of players to do that.”
Meanwhile, Silva was asked about the failure to earn any individual awards over the years to which he replied that he is not overly concerned regarding the same, he added: “It’s not something that I've ever worried about and I'm certainly not worried now. What interests me is winning titles with the group. We've done that, and I hope to keep winning.”
“Silva committed to a one-year extension with the Citizens during the previous campaign“ and this assures his stay with the club until the end of 2019/2020 season. However, the Spaniard may thereafter not consider another renewal with the club, having previously suggested that he would like to return to Gran Canaria to stay close to his son, “who was recently born“
pre-mature.
Manchester City have made another strong start to the Premier League season and they are currently holding a slender two-point lead over Liverpool at the top of the table. They return from the international break with an away game at West Ham United and nothing less than a win would satisfy them based on the recent run of form across all competitions.
